Georgie
Blair Castle 2007 Cottage Craft Spirals

Georgie Spence

Falling off seven times at her first event has done nothing to dampen the spirits of Young Event Rider Georgie Spence, she says this goes to show there is hope for everyone!  Although she first started out show jumping, Georgie switched to eventing and has been bitten by the bug ever since and certainly shows no signs of getting bored with it yet.

Numerous successes have seen her profile rise and a recent call up for the British Young Riders Squad saw her on the Gold Medal winning team at Blair Castle riding Rick and Billie Harding’s Cottage Craft Spirals, a horse who Georgie says has been beautifily produced by Sarah Cohen and is a really gentle horse who has taught her so much.  With a team of talented horses behind her, a lot of hard work and dedication, a supportive family (who she says she could not do without!) and great owners, Georgie has already attracted the attention of a few good sponsors including Tottie and Baileys Horse Feeds as well as catching the selectors’ eye.

Georgie is up and on her first horse by half seven each morning and rides three before breakfast, a couple more before lunch, another 3-5 after lunch, depending on how many are in work, before finishing off with evening stables around half six to seven. No wonder her advice for anyone aspiring to become an event rider is ‘work hard, work harder and then work harder still’ as this is obviously something Georgie follows herself!   ' Although I hate getting up in the mornings, especially at some ridiculous hour to go to an event, I wouldn't want to be doing anything else and when you get the good results and things start to come together it's all worth it.'
