Lynn freely admits to have been riding for too long and took up the sport because her ‘parents did not want me to work with horses’, demonstrating early her notorious winning determination and hard work. If she hadn’t chosen that path, Lynn would probably have ended up working in PR!
Going to the shows and doing well is her driving force nowadays, enabling her to get through the winter, cold and rain! An average day begins at 6am when all the horses are fed, before she moves on to wading through paperwork and e-mails and then exercising anything from 3-7 horses a day. It’s a demanding schedule which often leaves little, if any time, for lunch, particularly as she also has to fit in clipping, trimming and selling horses.
Lynn is constantly on the hunt for new horses and the next Polaris (pictured left winning the Championship at the HOYS) and to this end has 5 new potentials to watch for next season: a light weight hunter called ‘Polar Express’; the middle weight ‘Kingscourt’, two heavy weights ‘Castleman’ and another as yet unnamed; plus ‘Quasar’, a light weight cob. Her ambition now is to win the Hunter and Cob Championship at the HOYS in the same year which, with her skill and drive, will no doubt be accomplished in the not too distant future! Baileys Horse Feeds is something she ‘couldn’t live without’ and we will also have great pleasure in continuing to feed whatever Champion she creates, continuing the association we have had with her for the past 20 odd years. However, when asked what horse she would choose if she could pick from any in the world, reckons, in typical Lynn confidence, that she may already have one – a middle weight by Dimaggio (a dressage sire) out of GS Is Wiley Trout, so she could so some Eventing too!
It hasn’t all been plain sailing, with her most embarrassing moment being taking the wrong horse to Royal Windsor. But ever one to learn from her mistakes, reckons the best advice for any aspiring riders is to watch the professionals and ask for help when you need it – or just invite them over to dinner, as she’d always ask Richard Davidson, seeing as how he is ‘always good for a laugh’!
Lynn is constantly involved in passing on her top tips and advice and tuition is available upon request. She runs "Showing Masterclasses" throughout the year along with Charity Tack Sales to which you can bring and buy quality second hand tack and other kit. For further details, visit her website.
