The Longines Royal International Horse Show

Last week was a busy one! Tuesday saw a major coloured day at the Longines Royal International Horse Show with almost 250 entries. It was a very long one and I’m glad I was not judging and having to ride nearly 100 horses, however, the Baileys Boys did well. Cappa Sham was fifth in a class of over 40, while his stable mate, Volantis, was eighth. Although it was a shame that I had a major slip in my show! The following day we hot footed it down to the New Forest and clocked up another two seconds, a third and fourth with young Tarvos.

Then a busy, dusty weekend!! The Maxi class on Saturday was packed with some of the best cobs I have seen! Jane did an excellent job riding Cappa Sham, only having had one brief ride before, and such a change from her usual equestrian role - eventing!! He went really well. Pinkie was a star, especially as he hasn’t had many "runs" on grass and did find it a bit daunting but he finished third, a great result for a 5 year old! We then rushed home to return at sparrow hour on Sunday for the cobs!!

It did not all go to plan though! Jane and Cappa ShamTarvos didn't go as well as he could and, though he gave the judge a good ride, was not placed but like Pinkie he hasn’t had many grass outings and is only 5 years old! Volantis went very well and came home with a healthy sixth place.

As there was space in the lorry it was an excuse to load up a couple of extras so Bear, the 4 year old cob, and Mr Oosh, the ex-racer, went and how well he is now looking. I have been trialling the new No.21 Ease & Excel, for the last 3 months; he has been on it since he came out of training, along with his stable mate, Tiger Feat, and they really do look amazing! Next stop is the Irish Draught regionals with Pinkie (aka Jovian).
