What a Week

Last Sunday we had an early start, heading off to the Mid-Herts Country Show with the baby cobs!! These two haven't been out for a bit but they both gave me fab rides and got placed in the HOYS classes. Mr Oosh, the ex-racehorse, was on top form, wining the in-hand qualifier and the ROR ridden Show Horse series. So, it was one day at home before the New Forest and Royal International (RI) shows.

Things don’t always go to plan and I was rushing between the New Forest and Hickstead for the RI!! On Tuesday, we went to the New Forest. It was really hot and, with a class clash, Glen Gains rode Mayday Flyer who did not perform to plan! I was in another ring with Mr Oosh and he too did not go to plan! So, not a great start but it did get better.

Epimetheus and Starfall were doing both the New Forest and the RI. Epimetheus has only run on grass a couple of times so was quite unsure. He was pulled in in top place, which was amazing, and finished second. Starfall, who also hasn’t run too much on grass, was champion. To top it off, Cappa Sham collected third place in the Coloured class. It was then back home for a fleeting change before heading to Hickstead for the RI!

It went from roasting to freezing! On Saturday, I took Cappa Sham to the RI and he went well but didn’t get the placing I had hoped for. He was pulled in to third position but went down to seventh place in a huge class.

We then went home again for a cob change and to bring the babies back! I had no great hopes here as these two have not been in training long and are still green. Then the weather changed and it really rained! Neither of the babies had been shown in these conditions. Epimetheus was pulled in to about ninth, which I was pleased with as he felt very green, but he was not placed. There must have been about 28 slipping and sliding round the ring! I was soaked and freezing so put two coats on to return to the ring with Starfall. The flags were a night mare with cobs shooting off in all directions as the wind had picked up, but, we were delighted to finish in sixth place.
